We found two houses that were adorable, a few houses that were acceptable, and a couple of houses that just didn't make the cut. One of them had coloring on the walls, odd spill splotches on the carpet, and stickers on all of the cabinets that were under four feet tall. Suffice to say, we hauled out of that one as quickly as possible. And although there were two houses that were great, they each had their flaws. One was a perfect little house, but was on a teeny tiny lot and right up next to its neighbors (and it was a short sale which brings on a whole other set of heartache).
The other (left) was an older, only ok house on a huge corner cul de sac lot that was ridiculously private and cozy. The house itself wasn't falling apart, but to be really happy with it would involve redoing almost everything in it (including the currently blue carpet)...and maybe even ripping out a wall or two. So there will be no offers going out from the H's this week, but it was a good start.
I think that Mr. H had fun, but he was a little tentative about the whole thing by the end. He's such a wonderful husband, and he wants to make sure that he's in a place where he could comfortably afford the whole mortgage by himself tomorrow if I were to get pregnant. Romantic and adorable? Definitely. Realistic? Probably not. I'm in the school of thought of "buy a house as soon as you can, and buy the most house that you can afford" and that's what I'm pushing for. But he did make me feel quite guilty for pushing him into a situation where he's not quite comfortable yet (which I've been doing for the last five and a half years...) and we compromised on a slightly slower time scale...but one in which all bets are off if we really do find the house.
In the mean time, I will continue to hunt away!
